Manas Fuloria: The man behind Nagarro

The most important discovery in one’s life is to know what one really wish to do and those who know this well always shine. Similar was the case with Mr. Manas Fuloria, who always knew that he wanted to be an entrepreneur. Right from the college days, he was clear about his life goal that he wanted to start something of his own and a strong realization regarding the same came to him when he once visited a small manufacturing plant, as a part f a college tour. There, he saw the owner working and being the master of his own life and this struck him hard and he decided that he will also do something similar in life.

His strong desire to build and create things made him choose Manufacturing and processing as his stream at IITD. The excitement related to making something new always fascinated him and this also reflected upon his brilliant academic performance throughout his college life. As one can never hide sunshine coming from the sun no matter how hard one tries, similarly one cannot hide leadership qualities as they always get showed up in one way or the other.Mr. Manas also exhibited great leadership skills during his college days and he served as General Secretary. Apart from this, debating was another thing where he proved his brilliance during college life.

Although he wanted to start something of his own right after the college, he went to Stanford for a one-year fellowship after completing his Bachelor of technology degree at IITD. Being from a middle-class family with no business background, he wanted to learn as much as he can before starting perusing his entrepreneurship dreams and what could be better than having a chance to learn at Stanford-which is considered a hotbed of entrepreneurship. Therefore, he decided to go to Stanford, where he got involved in many research works. It was during one such research with his professor that he identified a problem that he decided to solve. He started working on it and finally came up with a solution-his first production supply and planning software which he successfully sold at a whopping $40,000 USD.

After this, there was no stopping for him. He started various companies with some of his trusted college friends. He started a Consulting company  and a supply chain optimization firm, but somehow both of them failed.”Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” with a similar attitude, he kept on working hard and never stopped learning and after some time, he started a Software Company in Oregon. While he was working in software-related projects, he also started a garment company-Dextrousaber which was based on his brilliant supply chain optimization concept. In a quest to achieve more and more, he also launched PROTON Business School.

But as we all know that life is completely unpredictable, all of his businesses somehow started to fail gradually due to one reason or the other. Then came a time for him which he describes as the worst period – the period of indecisiveness, the time when he didn’t know what exactly to do.

It is often said, “Sometimes we win, sometimes we learn”.So, despite suffering from all these failures, he never stopped trying and continued his journey with a learning mindset which, in his own words made him “an expert at how not to fail”.

And that reminds us of the great scientist Thomas Alva Edison who once  said,” I have not failed, I have just found 10,000 that won’t work.”

So with all his will, he established another company which we all know as “naggaro”, meaning spirits materializing. Naggaro was not a completely new company but it was actually a  refined combination of his first registered venture-Conflux systems and a Software Consultancy service.Mr. manas Fuloria is currently leading naggaro successfully.

During his beautiful and inspiring journey, full of ups and downs, he has learned a lot about how young minds who are planning to take a similar path in life should start working. One of the major problems that many young entrepreneurs make is that they address the wrong problem. And according to Mr. Manas, the best way to identify a good problem is to focus on problems that one himself faces in life. One must also be aware of the fact that which industry is blooming right now as he believes that when the tide comes in even the dead fish rise. Another important lesson that he learned from his experience was to always accept reality as it. Being aware of one’s strengths, weaknesses, limitations and having a clear understanding of the circumstances always helps a person, both during good and bad times. When fortune is on our side, it helps us maintain and improve ourselves but when the conditions are adverse, it helps us tremendously to recover rapidly. Therefore, one must see things as they really are no matter whether they are desirable or not as when we start dreaming a lot and start interpreting things as we like, our eyes stop seeing the truth.

Apart from this, in order to be a successful leader, one must have a good understanding of people working around. As Mr. manas has learned from his experience, “people who are not reliable in one way are not reliable in other ways as well and people hardly ever change.”Therefore, one must be good at judging people as in whom to trust or not, as he believes that even a single mistake in judging people can really give us a major setback in professional life. This also applies to the customers for whom one is working. “one must know his customers like his/her own baby”. Many engineers who come with entrepreneurship goals often neglect this aspect and this hinders their progress a lot.

In six words, Mr. Manas Fuloria described his motto of life-

“STAY HAPPY, THINK BIG, GIVE BACK”
